Quebec
Quebec is a province in eastern Canada and the only Canadian province with a predominantly French-speaking population. The province entered the Canadian confederation on July 1st in 1867 but as recently been trying to separate from Canada and become its own country.
Quebec is Canada's largest province with the area of 1 542 056 sq. km with only the territory of Nunavut being larger. The province is bordered by the province of Ontario, James Bay and Hudson Bay to the west and the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick to the east. It is bordered on the south by the US states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York .
With a population of over 8 88 000 people, Quebec is the second most populated province in Canada with people living in all corners of the province. The capital city of this province is Quebec City located in the St. Lawrence River valley on the north bank of the St. Lawrence River near it's meeting with the St. Charles River. The Laurentian Mountains lie to the north of the city. Quebec City is split into two parts called Upper Town and Lower Town. Upper Town lies on the top of the Cap-Diamant (Cape Diamond) promontory - a high stone wall surrounds this part of the city. Lower Town is located at shore level, below Cap-Diamant. Other popular and highly populated cities include Montreal, Granby and Laval.
